At Benevolent Robotics we like to do the hard things first. That sounds tough but it is not as hard as it sounds. We don't do the entire hard thing, but a part of the hard thing. A small enough part of a hard thing is manageable. Not easy necessarily, but manageable.
Approached all at once, a hard problem will seem impossible. But the solution is not to avoid the hard problems in favor of the easy ones. What happens then is that the hard problems, which are really most important to deal with early, keep getting put off. With a lot of easy problems solved, most of the work still remains if the hard problems haven't even been looked at!
The solution is to face the hard problem first. A hard problem may appear as impervious as granite. But the truth is, we dig tunnels through mountains all the time. The Finns have an expression that translates as "Through the gray stone." The gray stone is granite. The gray stone is the hard thing.
At Benevolent Robotics our mission is too important to mess around doing easy things. We aim to improve independence, safety, and quality of life for people that we love. We aim to create life transforming assistive robots for people living with paralysis. Nothing need be easy about it. It just needs to be done.
We do the hard things first because that is how the hard things get done. At Benevolent, we're going through the gray stone. When we reach the other side, what we will have to offer will transform lives.
We'll be sweaty, dusty, and smiling. And we'll offer it with love.
P.S. We rely on continuous input from people living with paralysis, family caregivers, healthcare professionals, and anyone who feels they might benefit from helpful, assistive robots. Please send me an email (firstname.lastname@example.org) and let's set up a time to chat. I will always make the time.
